Your Grade 10 subject choices are among the most important decisions you will make as a South African learner. In the CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) system, you choose your subjects once at the start of Grade 10 — and these choices determine which university programmes and careers remain available to you when you finish school. Subject changes after Grade 10 are possible but rare and difficult. Your school must approve the change, and switching from Mathematical Literacy to Mathematics in Grade 11 means catching up on a full year of content while managing your other subjects simultaneously. It is far better to make the right choice before Grade 10 ends. Use Career Helper's free RIASEC Career Quiz to identify your career interests before finalising your subject selection — then choose subjects that align with your future goals.
